Memories of a Kentucky Childhood

Written by Cynthia Risner
Edited by Fatima Mahdi

Writing for her granddaughter, my mother describes what it was like to grow up on a tobacco farm in Kentucky in the 1930s and 40s. There was no electricity or running water, but plenty of cows, dogs, chickens, pigs, bees, corn, garden vegetables, and tobacco plants. With lots of hard work, this farm sustained a family of nine through the changes and challenges of the seasons.
